My name is Ann Gradman and I am very excited to be a part of The Academy Virtual and the Founding School Leader of The Academy NJ. I am eager to have the opportunity to work with our amazing students who struggle with dyslexia.
I have been teaching for almost 20 years. After graduating from Colgate University, I moved to California and taught in a progressive, child-centered school with exceptional students. I loved it and knew that I had found my path. Soon after, I moved to Brooklyn and completed my Master’s Degree in Reading and Learning Disabilities at NYU.
Since then, I have worked in several different schools in New York and New Jersey teaching Special Education and Literacy to students in grades K-8.
In 2009, I was inspired by a particular student to pursue my certification in the Wilson Reading program. I have been teaching Wilson ever since!
When I am not teaching, I love to go hiking with my two dogs. I live at the Jersey Shore, and I also love spending time at the beach. My three daughters keep me pretty busy, but sometimes I find time to relax with a historical fiction book (my favorite genre). An interesting fact about me is that I have lived in three different countries (USA, Ireland, France) and three different states (California, NY, NJ).
I am truly looking forward to making connections with my students helping them develop a strong reading life!
